Jonas Weichsel’s "Interstellar" series is an ongoing series of prints in a mixed medium of silkscreen over digital print on paper. The composition is derived from his series of paintings known as TC paintings. At first glance, the arrangement appears minimalist and strict: the color surface is divided centrally into an upper, more color-intensive half and a lower, paler half. A diagonal line from the upper left to the lower right contributes to the spatial effect of the works. While the composition is the same on each sheet, the different color schemes make each of the prints unique. The complex flowing and intense color gradients result from Weichsel’s specially developed printing technique using patented transparent acrylic inks in red, yellow, and blue. As in his paintings, Weichsel’s new works on paper are concerned with creating a space between the clearly defined boundaries of the medium and what is technically possible, in which entire universes of color can open up and be discovered.
