As is often the case with Jonas Weichsel, the
title of the work "Cloud Strip Painting" is revealing, because the
artist makes clear with his reference to the cloud that the work's point of
departure is, as it often is, an image file. It was relocated from the hard
drive of the computer to the cloud, where it is securely stored and can be retrieved
at any time. It contains all of the information about the work, which the
artists, before its manual execution, precisely composed in form and color. It
consists of a composition that is 185 cm high and 240 cm long. In it, different
color brushstrokes of a few millimeters wide, faintly separated from one
another by white, are placed next to one another. The brushstrokes discreetly
gain standing—as
literally as symbolically—by
ending in a triangular shape at the bottom. This is countered, no less
symbolically, by its top, which is not only narrower but also appears lighter
in color than the bottom. With all of the associated connotations of
lightness, such as those of the chthonic and etheric.
