artist's signature pictorial style of rhythmic undulations of short
brushstrokes and measured pacing of bands of color. By shifting between
opaque and transparent passages, Uslé generates a dynamic sense of
movement across the canvas. The title translates from Spanish as "The
Lost Seas", symbolizing forgotten places, fading memories, or emotional
landscapes that have drifted away.
The work is part of Uslé's ongoing series Soñé que revelabas ("I dreamed that you revealed"), which he began in 1997. To date, his most comprehensive series, Soñé que revelabas distils
the poetic-emotional conceptualism that permeates Uslé’s visual
universe down to its essence; the structural conditions of painting and
the pictorial process. Each brushstroke is both the indexical image of
the painterly gesture and the direct physical representation of the
artist’s relationship to his work.1of 10
