Abraham Cruzvillegas: Splitogetherness: another groove

Galerie Thomas Schulte presents Splitogetherness: another groove, a solo exhibition featuring new drawings, sculptures and installations by Abraham Cruzvillegas. Made on site, specifically for the exhibition in Berlin, the works relate to Cruzvillegas’ ongoing practice and series of projects, which he describes as autoconstrucción. Taking an improvisational approach, Cruzvillegas constructs sculptural works from everyday objects and materials – here found and selected locally by the gallery’s staff. These are presented alongside large-format drawings: loose, gestural interpretations of place and identity. While, in the corner space, his Blind Self-Portrait series is continued through a three-dimensional work composed of obscured documents of correspondence. Throughout, in an interplay of doubles and in-betweens, the works speak to process, exchange, collectivity, and the relationship between identity and one’s surroundings – each rooted in its own continual transformation.
