We are deeply saddened by the passing of Robert Wilson, who died on 31 July 2025 at the age of 83.
An experimental theater director, playwright, choreographer, performer, painter, sculptor, video artist, and sound and lighting designer, Robert Wilson is best known for his collaboration with Philip Glass on Einstein on the Beach, as well as his work with numerous other artists, including Heiner Müller, William S. Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, Lou Reed, Tom Waits, David Byrne, Laurie Anderson, Gavin Bryars, Rufus Wainwright, Marina Abramović, Willem Dafoe, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Darryl Pinckney, and Lady Gaga. A true pioneer and visionary artist, Wilson pushed the boundaries of theater; his works are noted for their austere style, sparse movement, and often extreme explorations of time, space, and scale.
We are thankful to have worked with him, exhibiting his series of high-definition videos known as the "Voom Portraits", as well as on curatorial projects. His death marks the loss of a singular artistic voice.
