This fall, DAS MINSK Kunsthaus in Potsdam presents Wohnkomplex. Art and Life in the Plattenbau, curated by Kito Nedo. The group exhibition explores how East German prefab housing estates have been portrayed in art—from socialist utopias to symbols of social transformation. Around 50 works—paintings, installations, photographs, films—by artists including Sibylle Bergemann, Sabine Moritz, Henrike Naumann, Stephen Willats and others reveal the Plattenbau as both lived space and cultural memory. The show traces shifting perceptions of community, belonging and urban change from the 1970s to today. An accompanying bilingual catalogue (Distanz Verlag) was also published.
