That Ship on the Mountain is a major retrospective exhibition celebrating the more than forty-year career of Juan Uslé, one of Spain's most internationally renowned artists. This show comes twenty years after Rooms, Uslé's first solo exhibition at the Museo Reina Sofía. Conceived for the first-floor rooms of the Nouvel Building, the exhibition unfolds as a non-linear story across ten spaces, connecting Uslé’s paintings, writings, and photographs in an ever-shifting narrative of abstraction, rhythm, and memory.
On the eve of the opening, Tuesday 25 November 2025 at 19:00, curator Ángel Calvo Ulloa and Juan Uslé will hold a public conversation in Auditorium 400 (Nouvel Building). Together, they will delve into the exhibition’s curatorial process and the artist’s four-decade journey—from his beginnings in Cantabria and expressive early works, to his luminous, pulse-like abstractions developed between Santander and New York.
