In this video, which was produced in March 2019 on the occasion of his exhibition “Sound Fields” at the gallery, the artist Dieter Appelt explains the process of setting his drawings to music. In his metrically-structured ink drawings, fine, flowing lines rhythmically merge into swirls and cloud-like formations, which are arranged, overlaid and accented by colorful dots and cuboids. His drawings allow him to explore the possibilities of dissolving seemingly rigid lines, setting them in motion and transforming them into sound.
