    Julian Irlinger

Julian Irlinger, born 1986 in Erlangen, approaches past events in sight of future conflicts. Using a variety of media, he combines research with selected material from historical, public and personal contexts. His presentations focus on institutions and images that are related to the writing of history.

Julian Irlinger graduated in 2017 from the Städelschule, Frankfurt, Germany. Previously, from 2011 to 2014, he studied fine art at the Hochschule für Grafik- und Buchkunst in Leipzig, Germany and received his BA in art history in 2011 from the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität in Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany. In 2018, he was one of the participants of the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program in the USA. In 2022 he was a participant of the Berlin Program for Artists.

He had institutional solo exhibitions hosted by Portikus, Frankfurt a. M. (2025), the Wende Museum, Los Angeles (2022), Galerie Wedding in Berlin (2020),  the Wilhelm-Hack-Museum in Ludwigshafen, Germany (2019), and the Kunsthalle Darmstadt, Germany (2017). His work has also been included in exhibitions at the Hamburger Kunstverein, Hamburg, Germany (2023), MMK Frankfurt (2022),  the Dortmunder Kunstverein, Dortmund, Germany (2022), Kunsthalle Baden-Baden, Germany (2018), Artists Space in New York (2018) and the Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna, Austria (2016). Julian Irlinger lives and works in Berlin, Germany. His work can be found in the collections of Wende Museum in Los Angeles, Fluentum in Berlin, Art collection of the National Bank of Germany, and Dortmunder Kunstverein in Dortmund.
