Alfredo Jaar's work Embrace from 1996 is related to his Rwanda Project (1994-2010). While this project—one of the artist's longest projects to date—was crucial in drawing attention to the Rwandan genocide, it also calls into question the effectiveness of words over visual images. Challenging commonly held perceptions of the relationship between art and politics, Jaar fuses the aesthetic and the ethical in order to focus on the world's injustice: poverty, exploitation, genocide.
