    Fabian Marcaccio

Fabian Marcaccio was born in Rosario in Argentina in 1963. His work poses the question whether traditional painting traditions can survive the digital age. In order to investigate this, he uses printmaking transfer techniques to make his pieces, while manipulating generally held conventions of painting. This cutting-edge style has afforded him international acclaim since the 1990s. More recently, he has relied upon digital and industrial techniques such as 3D-printing to infuse his painting process with spatial and temporal concerns. The results are environmental paintings, animations, and “paintants” that combine digitally manipulated imagery, sculptural form, and three-dimensionally painted surfaces.

Fabian Marcaccio studied at the University of Philosophy in Rosario, Argentina. In 2011, he was awarded the Bernhard Heiliger Award for Sculpture. He has made a name for himself through numerous international solo exhibitions, including Makasiini Contemporary, Turku (2017), Casa Daros, Rio de Janeiro (2014), Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (2013), Museum Lehmbruck (2012), Museum Haus Esters, Krefeld (2012), Georg-Kolbe-Museum, Berlin (2011), FRAC Auvergne, Clermont-Ferrand (2005), Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (2005), DA2 Domus Artium 2002, Salamanca (2005), Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein (2004), Miami Art Museum (2004), Kölnischer Kunstverein and Württembergischer Kunstverein (2000). Important group exhibitions include Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein (2015), Southern California Institute of Architecture, Los Angeles (2014), FRAC-Auvergne, Clermont-Ferrand (2013), Museum Morsbroich (2011), Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt a.M. (2011), Biennale in Sevilla (2007), Kunstmuseum Bochum (2007), Riverside Park, New York (2006), and Documenta (2002). Marcaccio’s work can be found in several private and public collections, including Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Blanton Museum of Art, Austin, Daros Collection, Zurich, Elgiz Museum of Contemporary Art, Istanbul, Kaiser Wilhelm Museum, Krefeld, Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, MACRO, Rosario, MADC San José, MIT List Visual Arts Center, Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt a.M., and Sammlung Goetz, Munich. Fabian Marcaccio lives and works in New York City.
